From dust donwload12/2/2023 Why was there no proper sandbox mode? As far as I could tell the tools shown in this video, with resizeable brushes and such, weren't actually available in any game mode in the final game, and I really don't understand why. The one thing that really disappointed me about the game though. I mainly wanted the game for the amazing simulation to be honest, but I really enjoyed all of the actual levels and challenges as well. The campaign had some interesting levels with some cool mechanics, and there were also a few challenge levels that had some interesting ideas, like one where there's a spreading fire and you have to stop the spread and protect an area just using some sand. The way sand would fall and settle realistically when placed made whatever scenery you made look believable, and the tricks with lava and foliage to prevent erosion made for really great sculpting tools. The water was fantastic, and the way rivers would carry sand downstream and spread new land out looked fantastic. In terms of the sandbox and the world simulation, the game was amazing. Maybe some day there will be a sequel that treats the PC as a real platform, and I think it could be a real hit! Have you ever played From Dust, and what did you think of it? ![]() However, even with those unfortunate bits, I can't help but think it is still a good game, which really says something about how fun the gameplay is. ![]() Maybe something about the game just appeals to that childhood part of us that enjoys playing in a real life sandbox, or building channels for water on the beach.įrom Dust could have been an amazing game, if not for many of its technical shortcomings. I've gone back and played through the game multiple times. Despite all this though, I have to say there is something about the game that really scratches an itch. Since release, the online requirement has been patched out, but not much else has changed. There was an "always online" requirement, and the game was locked to 30 FPS, no real graphics options were available, and in addition the control scheme was not very mouse + keyboard friendly. That excitement turned to some disappoint when controversy surrounded the PC release. I was really excited when the game came out in 2011, as the art style and gameplay looked like something I would love. You control and move elements like earth, water, and lava to shape the world. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creeschįrom Dust is a God-Game where you solve puzzles in what is essentially a giant sandbox./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
